Studio Elmo Vermijs was commissioned by Bureau Spoorzone Tilburg (accompanied by BKKC) to make a proposal for the Railwayzone. This former site of Prorail will be developed into a new urban area the coming years. To explore and use the site a mobile bar, toilets and stage are designed, these can roll on the existing rails. As a basis for the design old (residual) materials such as train tracks, sleepers and train windows were used.

Studio Elmo Vermijs and Studio Dirk Overduin were commissioned by Bas Husslage to make an inventory of waste streams in the Zaanstreek.
Bas Husslage is working on several urban agriculture projects and a variety of materials are needed.
For three months companies in the Zaanstreek where contacted to see what kind of waste they produce. These waste streams will be an inspiration for the development of urban agriculture projects in the future.

Studio Elmo Vermijs & Studio Dirk Overduin are nominated for the DOEN | Materiaalprijs 2011 with the interior of the Makers Festival.
The prize was created to promote a design practice in which innovation and sustainability go hand in hand with aesthetics and functionality.
On October 22, the announcement and award ceremony is at the Van Abbe Museum Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The projects are shown here during the Dutch Design Week until the 30th of October.

On June 23, 2011 "Greenhouse Pavilion" was officially opened. A pavilion which is built around the theme of meeting.
Studio Elmo Vermijs was commisioned by Landart 2011 to create a meetingplace nearby a farm in Sint Oedenrode, the Netherlands. The pavilion was built almost entirely of residuals from the local area and refers to the many greenhouses present in the surrounding. To date, many organized activities, from picnics to storytelling, from musical performance to educational projects. Studio Elmo Vermijs offers an internship to a student who is interested to work on the interface of art, design and architecture.
The studio is looking for a motivated trainee:

- Knowledge of Vectorworks(2d/3d)
- Can work independently on projects

Studio Elmo Vermijs initiates, designs and realizes the coming period the Foldingsauna. A trailer and folding-tent are combined into a mobile sauna for 4 to 6 persons. Currently, research is done into felt and how to apply this as a cloth for the sauna.
The sauna is expected to be ready around March/April 2011.

Studio Elmo Vermijs in association with Studio Dirk Overduin realized, the spatial design for Makers Festival on 1st of October 2010 in the Garage Notweg. Foundation The Beach initiated the festival what the newest developments in the field of making showed. The design has been based on waste streams of companies in the surroundings of the project location. Moreover it was cooperated and knowledge was exchanged in the realization phase with the HMCollege and Houthandel Hoogendam.

During the manifestation "Art at the Pool" initiated by Iris Dik on behalf of KoersNieuwWest as part of the Sloterplasfestival the Floating Bridge was presented. The Floating Bridge is the first of a series multifunctional bridges which can be used by residents, festivals, schools, companies etc. around the Sloterplas and gives the possibility to organize an activity on. Diverse of film evenings, picnics, chilling, theatre shows, workshops, musical performances etc. The vlonder has a floor surface of 50 m2 and has a maximum capacity of 50 people. Last week Studio Elmo Vermijs started with the construction of the first floating bridge. The project will be presented officially during the Sloterplasfestival as component of "Art in the Pool" at the sloterparkbad from 25th till 27th of June. The bridge build out of 50 former palm oil barrels , 200 straps, 18 trunks, 12 floor beams and 50 square meter wooden floorparts are according to traditional methods built and without any help of big machines.

On Friday 5 March open the design studio's Jenske Dijkhuis, Maaike Roozenburg and Elmo Vermijs their new doors in the former Dr. Oetkerfactory in Koog aan de Zaan. This three design studio's have developed a part of the old factorybuilding into design studio's where `Dutch Design' and Zaandam industrial heritage meet. The studio's are developed in coörporation with the project developer, Victorialofts.

The Sloterplasfestival invited Studio Elmo Vermijs to make a proposal for the coming edition of the Sloterplasfestival; the 25th, 26th and 27th of June 2010 at the Sloterplas in Amsterdam. The Floating Bridges are multifuntional rafts which can be dragged to every desired location at the Sloterplas. They can be used for festivals, but also for local activities, film evenings, theatre shows, as a camp-site, hangout etc. The bridges can easily be attached to each other, in this way a floating island on the sloterplas arises.

Studio Elmo Vermijs gave a presentation during LOKO/09 in Almere.
A day around a specific topic where experiences about art in the public space were exchanged.
Ten artists/designers had been selected to present a project which is developed but not yet realised. The swingpavilion, a pavilion in which approx. 50 people can swing at the same time were one of the chosen.

On the 13th of September the closing "Harvestfest" of the project edible landscape in Tilburg, the Netherlands took place.

Studio Elmo Vermijs realised the Settlingtankkitchen for the project. An open kitchen built in one of the former settlingtanks which offers a view on the cane-plantations and former water-purification installations. The pavilion offers the possibility to cook and eat with approx. 25 people. It also gives the possibilty to organize workshops, lectures,recitals and musical performances.

STUDIO ELMO VERMIJS moved on the 1st of May to a larger space in Koog aan de Zaan. It concerns an old factory building lying next to the Zaan. Several artists/designer are working in the building: Studio Jenske Dijkhuis, Studio Maaike Rozenburg, Merel Kamp, Henriette de Waal, Tjeerd de Linus, Arlet van Laar en Jan-Willen Moulijn. STUDIO ELMO VERMIJS presented during the Salone del Mobile 2009 a series of objects born from the fascination for recycling materials, mobility, construction, detail, and the relation between objects and people.

On the 21st of April a grand opening will be held at the Via Ventura, Milano. Studio Elmo Vermijs will present severel objects inspired by the Peopleskicthen which was presented at the same location as last year. At the Via Ventura Jack Brandsma , Lambert Kamps , Studio Frank & Lisa and Studio Jenske Dijkhuis will also present a show. Your welcome from 7 pm to have a drink, waffles and pancakes.

On the 6th of September opened in gallery E105, Bonn, Germany “Rietveld-Bauhaus”, an exhibition made by two well-known academies. Rietveld curator Sophie Krier invited Eva Heisterkamp, Judith Montens and Studio Elmo Vermijs to make a proposal around the theme “gesammtkunstwerk”.
Studio Elmo Vermijs designed an autonomous work that found it origin in the fascination for re-use, mobility and space. It consists of a horizontal and vertical object that confronts the visitor in the suggestion of a cupboard and bench.

The EP-pavilion designed by Studio Elmo Vermijs for artistcollective Extrapool from Nijmegen will be presented at the Kunstvlaai 2008.
In the pavilion books and wallpaper will be presented and performances are to be held.

During the Salone del Mobile, from 15th of april untill 21th of april the PEOPLESKITCHEN will be presented. Each day a meal is cooked from 11.30 at Via Ventura 6, in Milaan.

On 15th april the kitchen is opened. From 19.00 you are most welcome to cook a meal under the
guidance of Elmo Vermijs.
